Our Boat

Beachcomber Lodge operates a 7.5m Ocean Cylinder (custom built in 2010), “Wolfe”, that can hold up to 7 passengers + 1 crew, providing a private and comprehensive experience. The Wolfe has comfortable seating and adequate shelter to protect from the elements. We also provide drinks and nibbles during each tour.

Gary Payten, lifetime fisherman on Lord Howe and proprietor of Beachcomber Lodge, has extensive knowledge in boating, fishing, and LHI fauna, flora and history. His tours are recommended for a more personable, thorough and pleasurable tour.

We specialize in round island sightseeing trips, as well as trips to Ball's Pyramid, which rises majestically 570m out of the clear blue Pacific Ocean.  This beautiful rock is the world's highest monolith, abundant with rare birdlife such as the wandering albatross in winter months and the Kemadec petrol in the summer.  For any traveler, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity and a must see!

Gary invites both Beachcomber guests and other visitors to the island on board the Wolfe. This is an excellent adventure for everyone, particularly the keen bird watcher!  Our tours allow time for all passengers to soak in the experience out on the sea.
